Apana Mudra

apana mudra

Description: Join the tips of the thumb, middle finger, and ring finger of both hands together. Keep the remaining two fingers (index and pinky) extended straight without any tension or strain. Depending on your convenience, you can practice this hand posture three times a day for few minutes each session, or continuously for 5 to 30 minutes if needed.

Physical Benefits:
·This mudra is primarily helpful in eliminating contaminated, impure, and toxic elements accumulated from the body.
·It resolves issues related to urination and internally cleanses the entire body system.
·Besides improving digestion, it is highly supportive in curing piles (hemorrhoids).
·It is extremely beneficial for strengthening teeth and gums, as well as for controlling diabetes.
Mental and Maternity Health:
·Regular practice increases patience, tranquility, self-confidence, and inner balance in the mind. It awakens our latent consciousness.
·Pregnant women who practice this for 30 to 45 minutes daily from their eighth month onward can experience a smooth and natural delivery without much difficulty.

Emergency Treatment and Caution:
·This mudra can be used as an emergency relief tool for a person suffering a heart attack. If the mudra is held in the left hand while the thumb, middle finger, and ring finger of the right hand are pressed down—either by the patient themselves or with the help of others—immediate danger can be averted.

Note: This Apana Mudra should never be used in situations involving vomiting and diarrhea.
Significance: In ancient times, many great sages utilized this mudra to achieve their desires and spiritual fulfillments. No meditation is considered complete without Prana and Apana mudras, as both are exceptionally capable of preserving the body’s health.
