Vinayaka Mudra (The Gesture of Lord Ganesha / Remover of Obstacles)

Description and Technique

Hold your left hand in front of your chest with the palm facing outward, and curl your fingers inward. Now, bring your right hand with the back of the hand facing outward, and firmly interlock (clasp) the fingers of both hands together.
Position your hands right at the level of your heart. Now, as you exhale, pull both arms vigorously in opposite directions without loosening your grip. This movement tightens and strengthens the muscles of your upper arms and chest cavity. As you inhale, release the tension of the pull. Repeat this process six times.
Afterward, place your still-interlocked hands directly over your chest bone (sternum) and focus your entire attention right there. Next, reverse the hand position (so that the right palm faces outward). Following the same rule, repeat the exercise six more times. Afterward, remain still and rest peacefully for a short while. Practicing this exercise once a day is sufficient.

Alternative Variation

You can perform a variation while repeating this exercise. Instead of keeping your arms horizontally parallel to the chest, hold them diagonally at an angle. This means one elbow will be pointing obliquely upward, while the other elbow points downward.

Benefits

  • This mudra stimulates cardiac activity, improving overall blood circulation around the heart.
  • It strengthens the chest muscles and clears obstructions in the bronchial tubes, leading to smoother respiration.
  • It is highly effective in releasing accumulated tightness or physical tension in the chest area.
  • Spiritually, it awakens and opens the Anahata Chakra (Heart Chakra), enriching us with qualities like courage, confidence, empathy, and the ability to connect positively with others.
